Courage to Love Valentine Concert
Thursday, February 14, 2013 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Love: think about it, feel it, sing it! The Hawai`i Men’s Chorus (founded as the Puna Men’s Chorus) now includes men from around the island, all prepared to help you celebrate Valentines, the most loving holiday of the year. With 2013 just beginning here’s opportunity to affirm all those New Year resolutions about appreciating life, friends and ‘ohana.

“Courage to LOVE” is a choral concert featuring the virtuoso vigor and four part harmonies of men singing heart stirring songs in both English and Hawaiian. Classic songs like “Pua Lililehua,” “Cowboy Take Me Away” and a universal spirit rendition of “In This Very Room” will be complemented by original compositions such as the parent-to-child lullaby “Everything Is Possible” by Fred Small and “Kuka’oko’a No” composed by John Signor and arranged by Daron Scarborough, founder of the Puna Men’s Chorus. The “Kuka’oko’a No” lyrics by Wailana Simcock speak of “freedom in the calm, surrounded with love.” A favored Hawaiian mele, “Holei” speaks of the strong voice of the sea, the surf waves of old Kalapana. This song, and the entire concert commemorates Puna Keli’iho’omalu, who, as aloha voice of the āina, manifested courage to love.
