Tour Destinations and Guides:

Lyn Howe and her husband Geoff  Rauch, have worked for the past 13 years to create Beach Road Farm, an off-grid, diversified eco-farm in lower Puna growing 2.5 acres of fruit & nut trees, spices, culinary and medicinal herbs, vegetables and for the past 7 years, a small aquaponics system. The challenge of developing a farm from raw land, a jungle of invasive trees, vines and 750-year old lava, involved extensive work on soil building and soil health.  Learning what will thrive in a microclimate at a 50-foot elevation and 500 feet from the ocean has required patience, keen observation, perseverance and flexibility. Using both Korean Natural Farming methods and permaculture principals they grow 90% of the food they eat, share produce and plants with neighbors at their small fruit stand and sell produce and value-added products to the Locavore Store in Hilo.

Lyn has an herbal medicine background, was one of the founders of Sonoma County Herb Association, studied traditional herbal medicine in Indonesia, and Ecuador and taught backyard medicine classes for several years in Puna.  Presently she creates and sells culinary and medicinal “Backyard Pharm” products with her business partner Hilary Flaming.  For the past 4 years Lyn has been the Project Coordinator for Hawaii Public Seed Initiative (HPSI), a statewide project of The Kohala Center, funded by the Ceres Trust. http://kohalacenter.org/hpsi. Explore how you can truly THRIVE in your life with the loving support of a community of lesbian and bi women on the Big Island.

About the Facilitator(s)

Kimberly Dark is a master facilitator who has led groups to awareness and understanding on three continents over the past twenty years. In addition to teaching yoga since 1999, she’s a writer, sociologist and storyteller whose work has been invited to hundreds of colleges, universities, theatres, festivals and conferences. Gender, sexuality and sexual orientation are frequent themes - along with practicing radical self-love and acceptance in awareness of cultural context.

She blogs regularly for Huffington Post, Ms. Magazine and Decolonizing Yoga in addition to contributing essays and stories about personal and cultural transformation via body acceptance to a variety of books and publications.

As a yoga teacher, Kimberly uses an Iyengar-style training and more than twenty years experience with diverse yoga practices to challenge and welcome students of every ability and body type.  As a facilitator, her work on gender and sexuality explores the personal and cultural moments that cause us to connect or disconnect with life-expanding erotic urges.  All of her work encourages personal sovereignty, inner voice and an entitlement to health and vibrancy at all sizes, ages and abilities.

Tiffany Jentsch is a trainer and health coach who has presented over 200 seminars on topics of health, fitness, and behavior in more than 20 countries. Traveling the globe as a facilitator has given her insight to human behaviors across many cultures. Health and happiness means something different for everyone, but a common ground we all share-and that is necessary for our health and fulfillment-is identifying our thought patterns and learning the reasons why we make certain decisions.

Living in Hawaii has given Tiffany many gifts and she has been facilitating life-changing adventures to share with others the healing powers of Hawaii.

Combining her coaching skills with guided adventures has allowed her to enhance her ability to help people expand their views of themselves and create intentions for more vibrant living. www.BeAwesomeRetreats.com

Tropical Flower Arranging Retreat

Ryan Turner

About the Facilitator(s)

Ryan Turner

Ryan spent a year as Kalani’s resident flower arranger and created more than 1,400 works of floral art in that time. From arrangements more than twenty feet high to bouquets only a few inches tall, his flowers helped make the most special memories beautiful and treasured. Ryan's works were displayed throughout Kalani campus and he is regularly commissioned to create special pieces for birthdays, festivals, concerts and weddings. Ryan is influenced by the Buddhist ideals of minimalism and by Japanese and Hawaiian aesthetics. He believes that arranging flowers is a moving meditation that quiets the mind, steadies the breath and facilitates living in the moment.

`Ohana Yoga Retreat 2015

Gena Kenny & Kent Cuthbert

The Ultimate Yoga Retreat

Come and experience yoga, adventure, and the spirit of Polynesia all in the most spectacular venue on the Big Island of Hawaii.

About the Facilitator(s)

Gena Kenny

Gena Kenny

Gena has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. Her studies began with Jilda Liddicut of the Gaia School of Yoga. She has continued expanding her yoga studies under the guidance of internationally renowned teacher Donna Farhi. Her teaching focuses on nurturing from the inside – out. This approach allows students of all levels of experience and from all traditions to build their own authentic Yoga practice.

“My connection to Hawaii and the spirit of Polynesia comes from a twenty year history of paddling outrigger canoes. Through my many travels to Hawaii, I have had the opportunity to discover the magic of the Polynesian Islands and peoples. In essence the spirit of the islands is "Aloha", which means to be kind, nurturing and loving to yourself, to others and to the planet.”

The creation of "`Ohana Yoga" comes from blending this 'magic' and 'spirit' into her own unique style of teaching. Gena has also authored a book and dvd "The Gift of Yoga".

Kent Cuthbert

Kent has a lifelong passion for the outdoors and an active lifestyle. From participating in sports from an early age right up to competing in 5 Ironman Triathlon events Kent has continued to find reasons to be outside. After spending fifteen years as a professional in the corporate world he followed his passion and currently owns and operates Kayak Melbourne a tour business in Australia, and assists Gena as partner in Ohana Yoga & Wellness.

He loves to facilitate helping others get active and have memorable adventures, ensuring his groups have fun filled, safe experiences. He has worked with diverse groups at all levels of fitness and age groups from high school students to Corporate Teams. He has a wealth of fitness related knowledge and is a trained Pilates instructor
