Growing up in a small, Northern California coastal town, Anja frequented the cliffs overlooking the ocean to practice nature-honoring rituals. This was the early phase of what grew to be a passion for movement in dance, surfing, hiking, capoeira and yoga.
Anja is a 1996 graduate of The Yoga Room's Iyengar - based teacher training program in Berkeley, CA. She has taught for 17 years, cultivating a gentle, subtle, alignment and breath-based approach. Calming the nervous system lays the foundation for the yoga practice. With compassion, patience, and knowledge, she offers valuable, individualized guidance. Restorative, Back Care, Gentle, Prenatal, Postnatal and Yoga for Kids are yoga niches that she offers with gratefulness and zeal.
Over 20 successful, intimate size yoga retreats have been led by Anja since 1997. The continuous flow of a deep, daily practice, harmony with nature, and the connection of the group provides an ideal environment for yoga to unfold.

reiki is a passive form of qi gong used to promote deep relaxation and a natural balance. practiced across the globe by over 1 million people, reiki helps each of us become more aware of the life giving force within us. as this awareness deepens, so too does our ability to heal and grow naturally. science now recognizes the primacy of consciousness. this understanding is helping us all shift from a materialist worldview to understanding the currency of energy in all things … especially our health.

About the Facilitator(s)
jaRed has been learning, deepening and sharing his yoga flow practice at Kalani for the past eleven years. He first discovered his resonance with yoga through the ashtanga primary series with Pamela Richardson in the summer of '97. He graduated from Kathy Elder's original yoga teacher training in 2001, and has since deepened his understanding of teaching vinyasa flow yoga through intensives with Shiva Rea.
He has felt honored and inspired by the teachings of many and holds gratitude for all of his teachers, past and present. He continues to hold a sacred space for breath, gratitude, yoga and love in his weekly classes at Kalani Oceanside Retreat. www.jaredsam.com
Dennis agrees with Pattabhi Jois' statement in the movie Enlighten Up that the main goal of yoga is to discipline the mind. Dennis feels that Kundalini Yoga is one of the most effective, fun and quickest methods to practice the art of disciplining the mind.
His approach is gentle and focuses on opening up the energy centers in the body with Kundalini Yoga exercises. He has studied with Kundalini master Gurmukh and completed Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Teacher Training. His classes are invigorating, grounding, intuitive, fun and leave you feeling centered, calm and smiling.
Jason graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy in 2006 and started working at the Salt Lake City campus soon after teaching Human Anatomy for massage therapists. He is thrilled to be returning to Hawaii to co-facilitate his first men's yoga and massage retreat with Dennis and jaRed, and will be offering his services as a massage therapist for retreat participants during the Healing Hands Retreat.

“My connection to Hawaii and the spirit of Polynesia comes from a twenty year history of paddling outrigger canoes. Through my many travels to Hawaii, I have had the opportunity to discover the magic of the Polynesian Islands and peoples. In essence the spirit of the islands is "Aloha", which means to be kind, nurturing and loving to yourself, to others and to the planet.”
The creation of "`Ohana Yoga" comes from blending this 'magic' and 'spirit' into her own unique style of teaching. Gena has also authored a book and dvd "The Gift of Yoga".
Kent has a lifelong passion for the outdoors and an active lifestyle. About the Facilitator(s)
Susan Bowen. Studio owner of Thrive Yoga, Rockville, MD is a RYT500 and Certified ISHTA Yoga Instructor & Certified Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Instructor. Susan’s classes are challenging and inspire students to explore the practice of unifying the breath, mind and body to a place of comfort from the common Western habit of distraction and discomfort.
Susan has studied and practiced more than 12 yoga styles and encourages students to explore what works for them in yoga without concern for the “right” way to practice. Susan was first introduced to yoga 20 years ago while in college and has studied and practiced yoga while traveling for 15 years in the corporate world. Because of many years in a high-stress job (tight shoulders and distracted mind), Susan sequences yoga classes to help students de-stress, de-tox and become more aware of their own vitality. Sometimes that means getting more fit through movement and breathing exercises… sometimes that means hands-on assistance to stretch an ailing or tight muscle! Susan cues her classes to inspire awareness of the whole being-physical, emotion, mental and spiritual.
Susan has been honored as a leading woman entrepreneur in Montgomery County, MD for over a decade. As the Director of Programming for Thrive Yoga, she has been responsible for bringing both classical and cutting-edge yoga and wellness programs and staff to the studio. Susan facilitates and lectures at corporate, non-profit, and government events and retreats on a variety of topics including: stress-management, goal setting, and techniques for greater vitality in a busy world.
Zoe Marae. Dr. Marae has a PhD in biological science. For 15 years, she did medical research on complex multi-system disease leading to a joint appointment at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital, Boston. Zoe Marae is a scientist who believes in “magic” (Vibrational magic, that is). She playfully refers to herself as a “mapmaker” specializing in formats (maps) of higher personal energy flow. These very practical maps lead to transformation inside (peace and flow) as well as outside (new life attractions). Her “zoeisms” combine vibrational physics with graphic humor… functional and entertaining!
