Kathy ElderKathy is a Certified Yoga Teacher and Master of Yoga Education, and has completed the 500 hour certification for the Yoga Alliance. She has been teaching the mind-body-breath union and the spiritual connection since the late 1970's. "Yoga shows us the way to develop a greater understanding of ourselves and to the world around us. Yoga makes everything better," Kathy says. Her life's experiences have led her on the path of a deep and committed yoga practice.

As the senior yoga teacher at Kalani, she has been devoting her time and energy to several yoga programs here. Hundreds of guests, volunteers and community members have attended her classes, and many have deepened their practice through her Yoga Teacher's Training Certification program.

Blissful Yoga Retreat with Nikki Weaver

Need a break from your routine? Looking to strengthen and rejuvenate your practice? Then this retreat is for you, open to all levels. Each morning will begin with a 90 min power practice that will challenge and awaken the body. Evening sessions, also 90 minutes, will be focused on pranayama techniques, hatha and yin yoga. Classes are taught with humor, modifications, and will focus around the chakra system. Journals and hand-outs included.

Nikki Weaver finds peace and joy through the beauty, grace and power of coordinating movement and breath through her physical yoga practice. She is a playful and nurturing teacher, bringing her creative energy to her flow.

Nikki discovered yoga and massage while running at a National level for Australia. It was part of her weekly self-care, along with stretching and pilates. After running in the 2000 Sydney Olympic trials she slowly began to expand her knowledge on how the body worked. First, she became a certified trainer which led to more yoga. Soon she was running less and standing on her head more.

In 2005, Nikki completed her 200 hour Kripalu yoga teacher training. She is certified in power, children's, and pre/post natal yoga. She has taught yoga around the globe, including Jamaica, Iceland, and Australia. In 2007, she began her career in massage after her training at The Muscular Therapy Institute in Boston,MA specializing in sports massage. Nikki can be found working at Trainer's Club in Lake, Oswego as a yoga teacher and LMT. On stage, you might find her at Portland Playhouse, a company started by her husband and brother in-law. Michael Ceraso began his journey as a bodyworker through receiving a wide range of excellent bodywork.  After receiving reiki attunements and practicing for a year he traveled to Thailand where he studied Reflexology at Wat Po in Bangkok and Traditional Thai Massage at ITM in Chiang Mai.

Upon returning to Hawaii he continued to explore healing work through intensive studies of Cranial-Sacral Therapy and Polarity. These studies laid the foundation upon which he has added Swedish Massage and Barefoot Shiatsu.  In 2006 he spent another two months in Thailand where he studied with 3 different teachers, learning new techniques and deepening his practice. Currently he is completing a Masters program in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

He has been the Wellness Director at Kalani since 2004 and orchestrated the Kalani Bodywork Training Intensive for the last 9 years as well as teaching its Traditional Thai Massage course.

She went on to study Process Oriented Psychology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Non-Violent Communication, and The TARA Approach. Christy’s specialty is emotional healing and trauma resolution with a somatically based orientation. She is passionate about the integration of soma-psyche-spirit. Dr. Mark Olson

Dr. Mark Olson has taught anatomy and kinesiology at Kalani numerous times. He is the former director of the Massage Therapy Program at Pioneer Pacific College in Oregon, and a former faculty member at the Traditional Chinese Medicine College of Hawai`i (TCMCH) and the Big Island Academy of Massage.

Dr. Olson is a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii and a certified Watsu practitioner. He has an M.A. in Education and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuropsychology and Neuroanatomy, which he has taught at TCMCH and for graduate and medical students at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Olson's neuroscientific perspective on massage and the human being is both unique and accessible. In this class, all major systems of the body are covered, with emphasis on those most relevant to massage therapists as well as the actions of all of the muscles. The information is presented using multiple techniques (lecture, powerpoint, handouts, drawing, movement, etc) that appeal to all learning styles.
