Dennis Dehler

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. It involves exercises to open the the energy centers of the body (chakras) while strengthening the central nervous system and stimulating the internal organs and glands. It is both relaxing and invigorating, and you will leave class with an open heart and a smile.

Dennis completed "The Master's Touch" Kundalini teacher training in 2005 with Gurmukh. He also completed Don and Amba Stapleton's Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher Training in 2001. He currently enjoys the teachings of Lynne Minton.

Timothy Schirmang

Passionate and inquisitive about the offerings that come with living an inspired life, Tim embodies an energy that utilizes and reveals the gifts that come from the world around us.  He is an avid surfer, photographer, world traveler, dancer and aspiring yogi.  Throughout his travels he has been drawn to areas of the world that inspire a deep connection to the spirit of the land, ocean and community, from the Hawaiian islands, Big Sur California, to where he currently resides on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  His experiences have revealed the opportunities for healing and self empowerment that are available to everyone.  He is grateful to share and give back to the community and to encourage one another to thrive through their own practices and embody whatever is it that will evoke a mindful, lighthearted and joyful life experience.

Dreaming & Awakening

Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D., Kristen LaMarca, Ph.D., and Patricia Keelin

September 24, 2016 - October 2, 2016

Becoming adept at lucid dreaming (knowing that you’re dreaming while you are dreaming) requires focused attention and practice that is difficult to maintain during our busy lives. This is an ideal opportunity to devote time to cultivating your lucid dreaming ability and enhancing your mindfulness in everyday life.

About the Facilitator(s)

Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D.
Presenter

Steven LaBerge

Stephen is a world-renowned expert on lucid dreaming, has pioneered the scientific study of the topic. His groundbreaking research at Stanford University demonstrated the validity of lucid dreaming to the scientific world, and his best-selling books Lucid Dreaming, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, and Lucid Dreaming: A Concise Guide have introduced hundreds of thousands to the experience.

He has had more than 30 years of relevant personal and professional experience, having earned his Ph.D. in Psychophysiology from Stanford University in 1980 for his seminal laboratory research on lucid dreaming. His contributions to lucid dreaming methodology include developing lucid dream induction techniques (e.g., MILD, the counting technique for falling asleep consciously, and the sleep interruption technique (WBTB)), the spinning and hand-rubbing techniques for stabilizing lucid dreams, and various lucid dream induction devices such as the DreamLight and NovaDreamer. His scientific contributions include using eye-movement signals to prove the reality of lucid dreams, characterizing the basic physiology of lucid dreams (and coining the terms DILD and WILD), and showing through a variety of experiments that lucid dream actions affect the brain (and to a lesser extent the body) as-if they were actually happening. Dr. LaBerge’s recent research shows how the phenomenon of lucid dreaming sheds light on the nature of consciousness, viewing consciousness as the dream of what happens, with perception and dreaming essentially differing only by the presence or absence of sensory constraints.

He can be a very entertaining presenter, and has been known to stimulate thought and on occasion, even lucidity. In addition, Stephen has had extensive personal experience with lucid dreaming, having learned to have lucid dreams at will, and among his thousands of lucid dreams are many which have been delightful, inspiring, enlightening, and life-changing. He has dedicated his life’s work to bringing this transformative experience to as many individuals as possible.

Kristen LaMarca, Ph.D.
Presenter

Kristen is an avid lucid dreamer whose areas of research and expertise include the therapeutic and creative applications of lucid dreaming. In addition to assisting with scientific research and use of the NovaDreamer during the program, Kristen will be working with participants to help them hone the skill sets foundational to a steady and fulfilling lucid dream practice.

As an experienced practitioner of meditation within the lucid dream state, Kristen will also share insights into the discipline that has resulted in much personal reward and an ever increasing fascination with the state of lucidity.

Patricia Keelin

Patricia “Keelin” Keelin is a dedicated and accomplished oneironaut, and a long-time associate of Dr. LaBerge and Lucidity Institute. Over the past several years, she has shared her experience and endless enthusiasm for lucid dreaming by teaching workshops, facilitating at LI's Dreaming and Awakening programs, and through numerous radio and television interviews. She has participated in research experiments as a lab subject and worked extensively with the NovaDreamer.

Although Keelin will be unable to join us at Kalani for the workshop this September, she will be offering organizational and pre-program assistance, and wondering, often aloud, "How odd is this?"

Hawaii: Fire & Water

Rian Bodner and Hannah Gruber

Immerse yourself in the elements that flow around and through you on a 7-day yoga adventure to the Big Island. Explore volcanoes, participate in cleansing fire and water rituals, rejuvenate with holistic treatments & food for wellness.

About the Facilitator(s)

Rian Bodner
Through teaching I support integrity, fearlessness, and the illumination of truth in our bodies, to better align with our hearts and relationships. Our physical work is to cultivate the ability to better empathize with our hearts, laugh while facing adversity, and awaken our dreams into reality.

Rian is a 500 hour certified yoga instructor, trained at Sonic Yoga and Yogamaya, assists Elena Brower, and is inspired by Kundalini and Katonah Yoga. Rian’s teaching is “skilled, sensitive, and strong.” His work has also been called “impeccable, heartfelt, and accurate”.

I didn’t come to yoga because it was easy for me, I came because it was not. Yoga to me is learning how the alignment of my body is connected to the alignment of my life. All aspects of our personality are represented in the way we move. Like the space in the eye of the storm, yoga allows the clarity needed to overcome the narrow-minded view we have of our lives.  The beautiful space we can create, allows us to observe ourselves and be witness to all that moves around and through us.

Hannah Gruber
Hannah came to yoga and Ayurveda from a stressful, jam-packed life with debilitating allergies and asthma. Tired of being over-worked, medication, inhalers, doctors, and caffeine, she was willing to try anything and through the practices of yoga and Ayurveda discovered how to take charge of her own health and life. Practice–yoga, meditation, cooking, or simply following a daily routine–is how she has learned to live in alignment with her own dreams every day. Hannah believes that this is everyone’s birthright.

A specialist in helping New Yorkers learn self-care, Hannah’s yoga classes, food and practical tools for daily living have helped many people find balance and be prepared to handle the variety of challenges that life provides. Hannah is an Ayurvedic Holistic Health Counselor, yoga teacher trained in Anusara yoga and Yogahour®, and Reiki practitioner. Hannah is also a wildly creative private chef, featured on the Food Network and cooking up wholesome and absurdly delicious meals seasonally at FarmToYoga, Seven Arrows Farm, and many other yoga retreats annually. Her distinct and playful approach to life will win your heart and inspire your own practice.

Lila Vinyasa 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training: Module 1

Clara Roberts-Oss

May 1, 2017 - May 22, 2017

We will cover the following in Module One of 300 Hour Lila Vinyasa Yoga:

Art of Sequencing- We will learn how to create holistic vinyasa classes bas

About the Facilitator(s)

Clara Roberts-Oss
Movement has always been sacred to me. I have danced my whole life, whether it’s been grooving to a good song, taking dance classes or flowing through a vinyasa, my body can’t get enough. Through movement, I feel as though I’m communing with the Divine. I took my first vinyasa class in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga Center. I had a feeling of arriving home. We moved through postures seamlessly with an emphasis of breath-body connection. The class gave me what the dance world didn’t, an emphasis on the internal journey. I received my 200 hour Vinyasa Certification with Lauren Hanna at Sonic Yoga NYC in 2003. I met Shiva Rea shortly thereafter and again, felt as though I had come home. Shiva had created a language for the kind of movement I’ve been doing my whole life. She, too, understood the idea of fluidity. Our bodies yearn to move like water and when we do, our bodies hum with excitement.  I’ve completed my 300 hour Prana Flow Certification with Shiva.

I have been leading retreats for over 8 years both in the BC region and internationally. I was part of Sonic Yoga’s NYC 200 Hour Teacher Training in 2005-2006. I have been part of Semperviva’s 300 Hour Teacher Training faculty in BC since 2007. I started my own school of yoga, Lila School of Vinyasa Yoga, in  2013. I teach workshops on the subtle body, chakras, mantra, meditation and asana worldwide.

I thank all my teachers for sharing their passion of this practice with me: David Life for opening my heart, Stacey Brass for her minute cues that have changed me life, Uma for opening my voice, Dana Flynn for throwing out all the rules and inspiring me to do the same, Constantine Darling for showing me another way, and Paul Ortega for reminding me we are ALL the cosmic dancer.

I invite you to be playful in your practice, remembering that lightness is found in spirit!
