About the Facilitator(s)

Zoe Jakes: Zoe is a proud member of The Indigo, recently on the road touring their new show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD. She recently finished filming her debut instructional DVD, to be released in the fall. Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to form the band Beats Antique, which released the album Tribal Derivations last spring, Zoe is currently working on its sequel. When not with The Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show, a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimensions, and has been seen tearing it up with the Extra Action Marching Band.

Recently nominated for Zaghareets “Best Interpretive Artist 2007″, Zoe is an inarguably innovative dancer, whose unique take on Tribal bellydance takes influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their existence. To learn more about Zoe visit http://beatsantique.com.

Kami Liddle: Kami has been dancing all her life, but found her true passion, Belly Dance, when she was 18 years old. She began to study cabaret style belly dance until she found Fat Chance Belly Dance and began to study their videos religiously.

Today Kami refers to her style as a modern fusion of an ancient dance. As she began to perform as a soloist she began to incorporate other styles into her ATS repertoire such as modern, hip hop jazz and bhangra dance. Kami has earned a degree in Art with a Minor in Dance fromthe University of Nevada, Reno and has been nominated for'Best Interpretive Artist" for 2005 and 2007 by Zaghareet Magazine. She joined Bellydance Superstars in 2005 and is a contributing choreographer as well as the director of the Tribal Superstars. Kami recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. Kami is a Oahu favorite and has been asked back again and again to teach and perform here. Her silky moves will hypnotize and enthrall. Trance Dance Training

Wilbert Alix

Trance Dance Ritual - Facilitator Training Program is open to both professionals and semi-professional individuals who seek to:

* ENHANCE their spiritual development through the ritual use of Trance Dance, Soul Hunting and other 'body-centered' shamanic healing techniques.

* EXPLORE the transformational effects of music, sound and percussive rhythms on the body and the brain.

* EXAMINE the history of ritual dance and it's relationship to mental, physical and emotional healing.

About the Facilitator(s)

Wilbert Alix has earned international recognition as a contemporary healer and teacher of progressive psychology and neo-shamanism. A prominent figure in the emerging science of body-centered psychology his presentations are accentuated with intellectual depth and a unique insight into the relationships between traditional shamanic healing, progressive psychology and modern science.

For more than 30 years Wilbert has trained individuals on how to achieve greater self-esteem, to communicate more effectively, to transform stress and anxiety into positive energy and to transform goals into concrete results. In 1990 this program expanded into the mystical worlds of shamanism, organic healing and transformational music. CDs such as Shaman's Breath, Medicine Trance, Rites Of Passage and Spirit Animal were created to help facilitate Trance Dance as a viable tool for spiritual healing… and introduced thousands to the world of shamanic healing through movement.

Wilbert continues to explore the professional application of Trance Dance and other contemporary shamanic techniques as legitimate healing and therapeutic tools. He conducts annual trainings and retreats around the world. Wilbert frequently appears at professional conferences as well as teaching educational mind/body science programs to individuals and corporations.

Wilbert says of his workshops: “My intention is to bring into focus the enormously complex worlds of mysticism, psychology, shamanic spirituality, and science for the purpose of clear direction and achievement.”

Body Wisdom Retreat

Wilbert Alix

The Body Wisdom Retreat is an exploration into discovering your unique spiritual purpose. This retreat blends the neo-shamanic spiritual (body) dance structures of The Trance Dance Experience with the creative-mind structures of the Manifesting Results Program. The purpose of this blend is to extend the process of comprehension and understanding into the body itself... to activate the entire human body as a creative organism capable of constructing reality through our expressive ability.

Wassa Dance - Spring Tuning

Lara McIntosh and Marla Simms

Wassa Dance Logo

Join us in seeding a new season of your body’s potential for ease and joyful vitality through dance and movement exploration. Come as you are and let the rhythms take you deeper!

About the Facilitator(s)

LARA MCINTOSH has studied dance all her life and is an active member of Seattle dance, music and public art communities. Lara is the originator of Wassa Dance which is inspired by dances and music from the African diaspora. She has been teaching independently in this afro-fusion style since 1997. Travels to Brazil and Mali, West Africa and ongoing study with locally based teachers are great influences in her work.

“Wassa” is the Bambara name Lara received during her first visit to Mali. It translates as “one who acts for joy and fulfillment.”

Lara's curiosity about movement and cultures are combined with a deep love for music and community building. She has a long history of collaboration for performance, event production and movement education which include ten years with THREAD DANCE, multiple collaborations with artist Cameron Anne Mason and the Fremont Arts Council for parade and pageant presentations. During her six years on the Board of Directors of the Seattle World Percussion Society (SWPS), she helped oversee the production of the World Rhythm Festival at Seattle Center, which is one of the largest free percussion festivals in the country. Lara is an adjunct faculty member of the ARC School of Ballet. She also offers school residencies and conducts annual intensive workshops in Washington State and Hawaii. www.wassadance.com (Photo by Michael Harthorne)

MARLA SIMMS started her love affair with the human body and its magic from the inside out. She experienced the boldness and explosive energy of a gymnast in her youth. Later, she studied modern dance and performed in the Southwest and the Pacific Northwest (Pat Graney & Co. and THREAD DANCE). She then turned to focus on the exploration of other’s bodies through the study and practice of massage. She has been a massage practitioner and massage educator for 20 years.

She teaches continuing education classes for massage practitioners in the greater Puget Sound area. As an educator, she pursues a better understanding of the soft tissues of the human body and how they react, however subtly, to the stresses and challenges of life and living. For Marla, the body continues to be a venue of art, joy, and discovery. marlasimms.massagetherapy.com/
