Yoga and Meditation Retreat

Lino Laure and Maxwell Starkhouse

Meditation Waterfall ImageThe tradition of practicing yoga and meditation (dhyana) are two complimentary systems. They have been around for thousands of years. Because of their universal and beneficial effects, they have both withstood the test of time. Many people from all walks of life enjoy the practice of yoga and meditation today in our modern world. Yet, their roots come from the rich traditions of the Vedic sciences of India.

About the Facilitator(s)

Lino enjoys sharing what he has learned, and helping individuals gain a better understanding as they practice the art of meditation and yoga.

A quote from Gary Renard:

About the Facilitator(s)

Gary Renard

Gary R. Renard

Gary Renard, the best-selling author of The Disappearance of the Universe and Your Immortal Reality, was born on the historic North Shore of Massachusetts. He became a successful professional guitar player, but during the harmonic convergence of 1987, he heard a Calling and began to take his life in a different direction. At the beginning of the 1990’s, he moved to Maine, where he underwent a powerful spiritual awakening. As instructed, he slowly and carefully wrote Disappearance over a period of nine years. In the fall of 2003, after much encouragement from other speakers and students, Gary began to present talks and workshops in public. His speaking career took off remarkably fast, and today he lectures internationally. Combining a disarming sense of humor with radical, cutting-edge metaphysical information and experiential exercises, this acclaimed teacher of A Course in Miracles has been described as one of the most interesting and courageous spiritual speakers in the world. Over the past seven years, he has spoken in 43 states, 23 countries, and was the keynote speaker at the International A Course in Miracles Conferences in Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Gary is also the most recent recipient of the Infinity Foundation Spirit Award. The award is given to a person who has made a meaningful contribution to personal and spiritual growth. Past recipients include Dan Millman, Ram Dass, Gary Zukav, James Redfield, Byron Katie, and Neale Donald Walsch.

Introduction to Yoga Retreat for Men

Joel Benjamin, jaRed sam & Dennis Dehler

WaterfallEscape the winter season to Hawaii, where you can experience the joy of discovering the benefits of the ancient practice of yoga.  Join an all male group of beginning yoga practitioners on the Big Island as we explore the basics of a gentle yoga practice at Kalani Oceanside Retreat.   Under the guidance of Joel, JaRed and Dennis, we’ll explore kundalini breathwork and meditation, stretching, chanting and partner yoga in a relaxing, tropical environment

About the Facilitator(s)

Joel BenjaminJoel Benjamin

Joel Benjamin is very excited to be teaching a yoga retreat at Kalani- one of his most favorite places on the planet. He has been practicing yoga since 1998, and has been teaching since 2004. Joel believes that when the ancient yogis created what we refer to today as yoga, it was never their intention to design a series of exercises to develop "yoga butt," (even though this is how many in the West have come to view this 5,000 year old art form.) Yoga is a system of breathwork, mindfulness, and physical postures all designed to improve the quality of our lives by bringing us into the present moment, opening our hearts, and making us better human beings. At its core, Joel believes that the true intention of yoga is to create embodied presence and emotional responsiveness.

Joel has a BFA from Syracuse University in Theatre, and is certified to teach yoga from Pacific Yoga, and master teacher Max Strom. He is also a member of the Yoga Alliance. Joel owns Yoga Shack, a private yoga school in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

He first discovered his resonance with yoga through the ashtanga primary series with Pamela Richardson in the summer of '97. He graduated from Kathy Elder's original yoga teacher training class in 2001, with fellow students Dennis Dehler and Peter Lavina.

jaRed has since deepened his understanding of teaching vinyasa flow yoga through intensives with Duncan Wong and Shiva Rea. He has felt honored and inspired by the teachings of Shiva, Kathy, Duncan, Saul David Raye and many others.
