About the Facilitator(s)

Joule L'adaraJoule L’adara is a classically trained vocalist whose music integrates western and eastern spiritual traditions utilizing extended vocal techniques. She is a Sound Healing and Reiki practitioner, holding an MFA in Multi-Focus Vocal Performance and Integrated Media from California Institute of the Arts, a BFA in Acting, and a Diploma in Audio Engineering. She has sung in Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Opera, and professional musical theatre and opera companies in the United States and in Europe. She also is the host of the bi-monthly program Sounding Circles Radio featured on the Contact Talk Radio Network. As the founder of Sounding Circles LLC, Joule joyously leads workshops and retreats throughout the US featuring group improvisational vocal methods designed to bring about emotional release and promote the idea of community building through group resonance. Joule is passionate about and committed to bringing out the best in others, helping people discover their unique gifts, and empowering them to bring their offerings forth into the world.

Brynn Rybacek

Brynn Rybacek is a National Yoga Alliance certified instructor (E-RYT) and has been teaching for over 7 years at yoga studios, athletic clubs, and gyms. She has led yoga retreats worldwide and also currently leads 200 hr yoga teacher training programs through her company True Flow Yoga in Huntington Beach, CA. Her teaching style is characterized by anatomical precision, philosophical eloquence and spiritual curiosity. The unique and vigorous flow of her sequences and her mindful adjustments draw her students into ease, while she pushes their boundaries and helps them to overcome their fears. Steve Velez

Steve Velez is Founder & Artistic Director for Da Capo Players. He received his musical education at the University of California Irvine. His recent television appearances include the Travel Channel, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Pepsi commercials, MTV Music Video's, NBC's West Wing and Frasier. Steve performs regularly with The Mozart Classical Orchestra, Opera Pacific, Orange County Symphony, Disneyland Candlelight Orchestra and the Crystal Cathedral Symphony. Steve was also the Principal Cellist for the "Beatlemania Classical Mystery Tour" at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and can also be seen playing cello in the movies Get Smart and I Love You Man. Lee Kix

has been playing drums and other percussion since he was 13 years old, touring the world with various bands. He been practicing yoga 5 years now, finding that yogic flow opens his body, calms his mind, and improves his ability to create original music.  Lee found the perfect harmony between yoga and drums when he discovered Tibetan healing bowls and gong therapy and has been passionately exploring their trans formative qualities since.  He offers individual Gong baths for healing and balancing and is also a certified Drum circle facilitator. Jon Arterton at the volcano"I'm discovering that lots of people were told not to sing as children - can you imagine?! I'm sure many of them heard far more than "Don't Sing"; they heard "Don't Speak. Don't really be." Singing is a very scary experience for many of us - it's so fraught with opportunities to make a fool of oneself.

Jon Arterton

Jon began his musical journey as a choirboy at Washington's National Cathedral. He was twice a Tanglewood Vocal Fellow at the Berkshire Music Festival, and holds a Master's Degree from The New England Conservatory of Music where he also served as Assistant Conductor of Choruses. He also holds an MFA in acting from Smith College, and has appeared in regional theater, Off-Broadway and on Broadway in The Utter Glory of Morrissey Hall. He was the founder and musical arranger of The Flirtations, the proudly gay a cappella group seen on HBO, Good Morning America and in the film Philadelphia. He lives in Provincetown, Massachusetts where he serves as Director of Music at The U.U. Meeting House and conducts the 135-voice Outer Cape Chorale which he founded in 2002.

Marimba Intensive: Enriching the Ensemble Experience

Michael and Osha with leisIn this intermediate/advanced intensive we will explore many aspects of playing Zimbabwean style marimba in a large ensemble format. Specifically we will focus on various styles of interactive playing, including: advanced variation concepts and techniques, responding to lead, lead development, improvisation, and piece arrangement.

Michael Breez

Michael is the director of Rufaro School of Marimba and Musasa Marimba Ensemble brings 31 years of performance and teaching experience to this intensive. He has developed a style of interactive playing that is deeply rooted in the teachings of his mentor and friend, the late Dr. Dumisani Abraham Maraire, master musician and teacher from Zimbabwe, Africa.

Osha Breez

Osha is artistic director of Rufaro and Musasa began playing Zimbabwean music 22 years ago, studying and performing with both Dumi and Michael. She teaches from her love and respect for this amazing music, with emphasis on inspiration and joy.

Together Michael and Osha create a bright, dynamic teaching environment, assisting their students to have a successful and deep experience!
