Marimba Intensive: Enriching the Ensemble Experience
Michael & Osha Breez
In this intermediate/advanced intensive we will explore many aspects of playing Zimbabwean style marimba in a large ensemble format. Specifically we will focus on various styles of interactive playing, including: advanced variation concepts and techniques, responding to lead, lead development, improvisation, and piece arrangement. Over the week, we will develop certain pieces in a completely unique fashion and will then have the opportunity to present the material to the local community. The main body of pieces will be chosen in advance and participants will know before the intensive how to best prepare. Within the intensive, we will also examine questions brought by participants concerning parts/pieces they already play in bands or classes.
