Hawaii Men's Yoga Retreat- Fall 2011

yoga on the beachNamaste!  Join a group of men exploring daily yoga in one of the most pristine, tropical environments you could imagine on the Big Island of Hawaii.

We will practice a variety of styles of yoga including hatha, vinyasa (flowing), kundalini, partner yoga and mantra (chanting) in a relaxed, all-male environment.

Mornings will be devoted to kundalini yoga, intuitive yoga & meditation before breakfast and later in the day we'll explore hatha or vinyasa yoga with afternoons free to adventure to black sand beaches and other volcanic areas (ie. snorkelling at tidepools or hiking through a lavatube). Connect with other men in family style meals on an open air dining lanai. Evenings will be free for relaxation in Kalani's clothing-optional pool/hot tub/sauna area, visiting in the cafe lounge and/or attending a complimentary hula class. Join us and let your body and mind unite in this ancient practice as you relax and enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer.

Our retreat begins with dinner Sunday night (october 23rd) at 6pm and ends after breakfast on Saturday, October 29th at 9am.  Check out time will be at 11am, although lunch (included) will be served from noon-1pm.  All levels of yoga practice, including beginners, are welcome. Yoga mats, props and blankets are all provided.

David Sanders

David began his personal yoga practice in 1976. He has studied at a variety of locations in Los Angeles, including Billy Porter's Urban Yoga Workout, and Yoga Works, Santa Monica. David has been deepening his practice at Kalani for the last nine years. A Kalani teacher for the past six years, David graduated from Kalani's Yoga Teacher Training in April of 2002. While at Kalani, he has had the opportunity to study with visiting teachers, including Shiva Rea, Lynne Minton, Saul David Raye and Duncan Wong.

Dennis agrees with Pattabhi Jois' statement in the movie Enlighten Up that the main goal of yoga is to discipline the mind. Dennis feels that Kundalini Yoga is one of the most effective, fun and quickest methods to practice the art of disciplining the mind.  His approach is gentle and focuses on opening up the energy centers in the body with Kundalini Yoga exercises. He has studied with Kundalini master Gurmukh and completed Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Teacher Training. His classes are invigorating, grounding, intuitive, fun and leave you feeling centered, calm and smiling.

jaRed Sam

jaRed has been learning, deepening and sharing his yoga flow practice at Kalani for the past nine years. He first discovered his yoga body through the ashtanga primary series with Pamela Richardson in the summer of '97. He graduated from Kathy Elder's original yoga teacher training class in 2001 and has since deepened his understanding of teaching vinyasa flow yoga through intensives with Duncan Wong and Shiva Rea.  He has felt honored and inspired by the teachings of many and holds gratitude for all of his teachers, past and present.  He continues to hold a sacred space for breath, gratitude, yoga and love in his weekly classes at Kalani Oceanside Retreat.

Maxwell is a yoga instructor, massage therapist, dancer, poet, musician and artist. He was first introduced to yoga by his mother when he was a young child and has been interested in alternative medicine and healing arts ever since. He has studied with different teachers around the world such as Kathy Elder, Shiva Rea, Lino Miele and Duncan Wong. He received his yoga teacher training certificate in 2003 at Kalani Honua in Hawaii. He is influenced by many different styles of yoga and martial arts such as Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga , Restorative Yoga , Capoiera, Tai Chi, and Kuk Sol Korean Buddhist martial arts. He spent five months traveling in India deepening his practice of yoga. He currently teaches Intuitive Yoga at Kalani.

Fees include workshop, meals, accommodations, and use of Kalani's facilities including pool, hot tub and sauna.
