About the Facilitator(s)
LARA MCINTOSH believes that anyone who moves is already a dancer. She has danced all her life. As a performer, teacher, and choreographer,
Lara explores rhythm, spirit, craft, and community to unlock the movement potential in others. An active member of the Seattle drum-and-dance communities for many years, her Afro-infused dance style is inspired by travels to Brazil and Mali, West Africa. “Wassa” is the Bambara name Lara received during one of her visits to Mali. It means “one who acts for joy and fulfillment.” Her curiosity about movement and cultures, combined with a deep love for music, are lifelong muses. She offers residencies in local schools and intensive retreat-style workshops internationally. (Photo by Michael Harthorne)
MARLA SIMMS started her love affair with the human body and it’s magic from the inside out. She experienced the boldness and explosive energy of a gymnast in her youth.
During her teens and beyond, she discovered qualities of movement under the loving and eclectic watch of teachers and choreographers. She then turned to the focus of exploration of other’s bodies through the study and practice of massage. She has been a massage practitioner and massage educator for 20 years. For Marla, the body continues to be a venue of art, joy, and discovery.
