Hawai'i Island 'Ukulele Retreat
Imagine the best of the West Coast 'Ukulele Retreat and Camp Ooo-Koo-Lay-Lay, rolled up together on the beautiful shores of Hawai'i Island.
Please join us for 5 fun‐packed days and nights of'ukulele instruction, merriment, and mischief, at Kalani Oceanside Retreat on the southeast corner of Hawai'i Island. With 120 acres set within a pristine, tropical, ohia forest, and bordered by a dramatic coastline and stunning cliffs, this is probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth to celebrate the 'ukulele and all that Hawai'i has to offer.
Besides offering us a warm and enthusiastic welcome (as well as meal options for vegetarians and vegans), Kalani has a variety of lodging choices to fit a wide range of whims and budgets.
Your retreat registration includes lodging at Kalani; three delicious meals a day with locally sourced ingredients; three to five 'ukulele workshops each day with noted 'ukulele instructors; and action‐packed evening events and activities. As guests of Kalani you will also have access to the 25‐meter swimming pool, hottubs, sauna, and admission to a variety of classes and cultural activities offered by Kalani, such as hula, meditation, lauhala weaving, and Hawaiian studies. We will also be arranging some optional cultural, musical, and nature‐related excursions, which may or may not incur an additional charge. In any case, your days will be jam‐packed with 'ukulele fun.
About the Facilitator(s)
As always, we have chosen instructors with a proven track record for teaching, engaging their students, AND the ability to present material in a variety of musical genres. (And folks who are just, plain fun!) As we do at the West Coast ‘Ukulele Retreat, we plan to keep the student-to-instructor ratio right around 10 to 1. Here’s who will be there to instruct and inspire you: Sarah Maisel (you can see how excited she is to be making her Hawaiian debut), Peter d’Aquino, Bryan Tolentino, Andy Andrews, and Dave Egan. To offer guest workshops and local insights, we will also be drawing from the significant pool of local Hawai’i Island talent: Keoki Kahumoku, Alan Hale, Kona Bob, Chuck Moore, Ka’ulani Trainor, and more. Naturally, there will be more of an emphasis on Hawaiian music and culture than we have at Asilomar and Camp O, but please note that all other musical genres will be well-represented at the Hawai’i Island ‘Ukulele Retreat.
