Presence of Body, Silence of Mind: A Yoga and Meditation Retreat

The “core” can refer to the midsections of our body, creating tone, balance and strength there; but it can also be synonymous with engaging in the combination or series of yoga asanas that are referred to as fundamental or “core” postures.

In as much as these are both accurate, there is a third and often overlooked definition of “core” that makes the practice of yoga complete: accessing the “core” of our being. This is done through the yoga practice of meditation.

Traditionally in India, where the esoteric knowledge of yoga originated, yoga asana practice is done as a means to prepare for deep meditation and not simply
an end in itself. Meditation is at the heart of all spiritual practices, and the reason for this is because meditation silences the mind while simultaneously expanding awareness from the “core” of our being. This experience of expanded awareness becomes the fertile ground of our awakening, a greater awakening of the Self. Therefore, through the practice of meditation in conjunction with yoga asana practice, our full potential is cultivated and a more luminous person emerges, not only in body but also in mind. We gain a peaceful mind, with the spirit shining forth expressing joy and energy.

In this workshop, youʼll learn how and why the practice of yoga asanas and
meditation are integral to yoga. The key to this understanding lies in the knowledge of the energy channels of the body working to uphold the balance of all layers of our consciousness. At the core of this workshop, will be our sincere practice, with attention to the fundamentals of yoga asanas and meditation, of a simple, effortless style of meditation designed to quiet the mind and enliven the core of our being.

There is a saying, “Yoga...has a beginning but no end”. In light of this time honored tradition, I am happy to be your teacher for this retreat and ever dedicated to supporting you in your spiritual journey. Whether youʼre just starting to learn yoga asanas or meditation (or both) or have had some experience already, I invite you to join me and experience the bliss and energy that comes from a collective practice of yoga and meditation.

The workshop will include:
*Several yoga asanas and meditation sessions each day.
*Easy, comprehensive guided yoga asana and meditation instruction.
*Instructions in a variety of yoga asanas (poses), a few mudras (stimulating
energy points) and pranayama (stimulating energy currents through breath).
*Daily discussions of yoga and meditation experience throughout the course.

About the Facilitator(s)

Lino Laure

Lino LaureLino Laure has been practicing meditation for over 25 years. A year after learning meditation, he had a spontaneous spiritual awakening, as the surge of kundalini energy awakened within him prompting a whole new level of life, self- awareness and direction. Since 1993 he began study and received guidance from his teacher, JK Gurukal, a master healer from Kerala, India, learning aspects of yoga, meditation, martial arts and the healing arts: applied sciences from the tradition of Dhanurveda. While much of what Lino has learned has been essentially for his own edification and spiritual evolution, he enjoys nonetheless sharing aspects of what he has learned with individuals who are open to a better understanding and experience of the art of yoga and meditation. Since 2010, Lino has taught extensive workshops and retreats in yoga and meditation at Kalani. He currently lives in the East Coast. www.linolaure.com
