Ecstatic Living Retreat PosterAloha!

Come and join Max Fathom, Maxwell Starkhouse and Lino Laure for several days of Ecstatic Living Practice on the beautiful coast of Kalapana, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Ignite, renew and deepen your awareness and mindfulness practice with us as we engage in dance to beautiful and potent music, stretch and explore our bodies through intuitive yoga and authentic, contemplative movement, dive into effortless group meditation to quiet the mind, and partake in other explorations to cultivate wholly an ecstatic way of living. Maybe youʼve heard of Ecstatic Dance and maybe youʼve been curious about yoga and meditation or already partake in some of these experiences and just want to come to Hawaii and have a time of play, renewal, and revitalization while connecting with others who celebrate life.
Max, Maxwell and Lino share a common love of Hawaii and the transformations the Big Island has gifted them over the years. They are eager to share their experiences and practices with you at Kalani.
Please come and join us as we practice, dance, celebrate and deepen our connections...connection with ourselves, with each other, a community of kindred souls, and with our Source.

About the Facilitator(s)

Max Fathom

Max Fathom

Max came to the conscious dance movement through the "doorway" of a 5 Rhythms group in Austin,Texas called Body Choir. After 5 years with that group he moved to Hawaii and started Ecstatic Dance Big Island. This group spawned many other groups around the country, the largest of which is Ecstatic Dance East Bay, which itself has spawned many groups around the country, as well as the planet. This movement is expanding. “I feel like my particular contribution to the conscious dance movement and specifically what is now commonly referred to as Ecstatic Dance, has to do with combining the electronic dance music that is part and parcel of the DJ culture and the 5 Rhythms or Wave format that was created by Gabrielle Roth. The wave is a perfect fit for facilitating ritual, community dance space. I enjoy using electronic music for these events, equally I have a vastmusical collection and nothing is off limits if I believe that it will inspire, motivate, move and touch the participants on the dance floor. I am excited to see this movement grow because I believe it is a valuable and worthwhile contribution to our New Earth and our awakening human collective.”

Maxwell Starkhouse

Maxwell StarkhouseMaxwell first came to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2001 as a volunteer at Kalani Honua. He soon discovered Ecstatic Dance and was so inspired by the musical, dance journey that he began to attend the weekly dances at Kalani as well as attending various yoga classes a few times a week. In 2003 he completed his first yoga teacher training with Kathy Elder and began teaching weekly Intuitive Yoga classes. In the same year he became a Licensed Massage Therapist and began offering sessions. He then went on to travel to Chicago for a Yogic Arts teacher training and then onto India to practice Ashtanga Yoga in Kerala and discovered Vipassana Meditation in Gujarat. When he returned to Hawaii and the dance community, he yearned for more tribal and world music. So this inspired him to become a DJ. In 2009, he DJ-ed at Kalani’s Ecstatic Dance and has been collecting music and DJ-ing ever since. At Kalani, he also teaches Intuitive Yoga classes, Intuitive Aquatic Movement classes (in the warm therapy pool) and works as a Massage Therapist, offering sessions on the massage table and, uniquely, in the water. He also enjoys playing various musical instruments, spinning fire, bodysurfing and playing in Hawaii's nature.

Lino Laure

Lino LaureLino discovered the joy of Ecstatic Dance at Kalani in 2003 when he moved to the Big Island of Hawaii 10 years ago. Dancing has always been part of his life and the nature of Ecstatic Dance, as a conscious dance process, fulfilled his spiritual inclinations. In 2009 when Lino moved to Kalani, he accepted the honor of facilitator for Ecstatic Dance Hawaii (one of the largest venue in the US) and has been facilitator for Ecstatic Dance Hawaii since. In his personal life, Lino has been practicing meditation for over thirty years and studied under the auspices of his teacher, JK Gurukal, a master healer and martial artist from Kerala, India, learning aspects of yoga, meditation, martial arts and the healing arts: applied sciences from the tradition of Dhanurveda. Lino is also a painter and artist. He enjoys sharing all of his various skills by way of teaching and facilitating workshops and classes at Kalani, on the Big Island of Hawaii, where he also resides.
