Do I have to have a lot of yoga class experience for this retreat? This retreat is very beginner friendly, and we will encourage intermediate/ advance students to experience full expressions of the poses. Newer yogis will be guided into poses, or encouraged to modify the yoga poses.
What do I need to bring for the yoga classes? The facility has yoga mats and all the props, however, it is nice to have a personal yoga mat. Water Bottles- There are several places to fill up reusable water bottle around the facility.
Will I be expected to attend all events? All the events, are of course, optional. We encourage you to take full advantage of as many activities that will get the most out of your Kalani experience.
How should I pack? Light ! Remember, it is a naked yoga retreat, and the pool and local beach are clothing optional. Bring clothing items that can easily dry as Hawaii is humid climate. Hats and hooded sweatshirts are nice to wear at sunrise time.
Wifi Connect? There is wifi , but it may be weaker than you have at home.
Should I have a rent a car? Most folks do not need a car. You should rent a car if you need a lot of independence and want to do longer ventures away from the retreat center. Kalani will provide airport /ground transportation at additional cost.
What about other island excursions? If you want to see more of the island, please book tours at the registration desk. Kalani’s website can be a useful tool for finding out more about the facility.
About the Facilitator(s)
Paul worked for years as a bartender and assistant manager at an awesome and popular SOMA (SF) dive bar. Physical alignment issues and a search for his spiritual side led him to the yoga mat. He began to teach hatha yoga in 2007. "Teaching is always inspiring when you see the transformation of the students over the yoga session". His classes are slow flow hatha with a sprinkling of pilates and yin yoga. He likes to say, in class, that his voice is only a guide and that the students should take the responsibility to find what it is they need from their practice.
Paul has studied extensively with Ana Forrest, Erich Schiffman, Les Leventhal, & Tony Briggs. He is currently a big fan of yoga instructor Maria Stanford & Jean Mazzei. He recently took a detour to San Diego to get his Physical Therapy Assistant license, and is ecstatic to be back in the Bay Area. Paul currently teaches at the Sun Room in SF and is looking forward to his 3rd time teaching at Kalani.
Ron Stewart has been performing and exploring movement innovation for 30 years. His professional career as one of Canada’s most prominent male contemporary dancers, directly influences his understanding, and offering of his somatic and bodywork practices.
Having started practicing yoga in 1999, he received 200 hr YTT certification with Kate Potter in 2005 (Namaste Yoga- Vancouver BC). Studies in Somatic Experiencing (current) and Sexological Bodywork (certified 2011), have refined his interests toward the realm of sexual wellness.
Founder of Skyclad Yoga in Vancouver 2005, life’s transitions moved him to Victoria BC in 2009 where he has been building his practice and retreat centre. Ron guides and supports as expansion rises from contraction, light illuminates shadow and breath brings you into the moment. Ron is excited to be teaming with Paul Tucci and Kalani to offer Men's Naked New Years Yoga Retreat.
