The Niu (Coconut) tree provided an invaluable resource to the people of Hawai‘i. Niu not only provided a source of food and water but parts of the trees were used to make drums, rope, thatch roofs and baskets. Join Aunty Lynda Saffery for an experiential lesson on coconut Basket making!


Lynda Saffery is a practitioner, teacher and master weaver of ‘ulana lauhala (Pandanus leaf weaving), a storyteller and a participant in the Kū’ē Petition Sign Display installation piece that has toured throughout Hawai‘i and America sharing the truth of the anti-annexation petition of 1897.
