Come join us to unwind the body, mind and soul and reconnect with your true nature.  In this retreat we will focus on SLOWING DOWN and LISTENING DEEPLY to our body wisdom.  We believe that our body has an amazing self-organizing system. If we really allow it to kick in, our body takes us on a healing journey as needed.  We will explore various practices with that view in the center of our approach and tuning to the subtle sensations will be an important key to get in touch with our inner guidance.  We will practice moving gently, taking plenty of time to feel, allow and explore.  Lets restore the trust in our own body and let our lotus flower of inner wisdom blossom!

About The Food
Three times a day, guests and staff are summoned by the call of the conch to dine on the open-air lanai (veranda). At this central gathering place, you can experience the daily rhythms of assembly and departure reminiscent of ancient village life. Kalani cuisine encompasses a variety of style including, Thai, Indian, and Italian. The chefs have extensive training and a common interest in creating healthful and delicious meals. We celebrate the abundance of Hawai'i by serving local tropical fruits and vegetables and fresh-caught fish. Seafood is often served at dinner (chicken and beef are served occasionally), and vegetarians are well-cared for. Most importantly, the chefs firmly believe that the care and love invested in the cuisine is transmitted to the diner, and everything is prepared with aloha.

Accommodations
Kalani offers accommodations to suit diverse preferences and budgets. Our rustic accommodations are simple, outside-in spaces that offer comfort and tranquility. Angular octagonal or pentagonal structures are a contrast to box-based architecture, and invite a departure from routine.

Kalani accommodations are not equipped with heating or air conditioning, as Kalani is situated on the east coast of Hawaii Island, benefiting from the persistent east-to-west Pacific trade wind flow. Windows in our accommodations are screened, maximizing airflow and views, and there are no phones or televisions in rooms.

Hale Lodges - pronounced Ha'-lay, Hawaiian for "house" – are two-level Lodges that contain rooms on each floor with access to common areas on both levels. The Hale Lodges are located on the central lawn near the dining lanai, and feature garden views. Hale Lodge rooms approximate 200 square feet and can accommodate up to three guests. Some rooms have private baths, and our most economically priced rooms have shared baths.

Lofts approximate 1,000 square feet and comprise two private bedrooms adjacent to a shared common space. Each Loft bedroom can house up to two people, and has a full private bath. The Loft common space is spacious and open in feel, and features a soaring, high-ceiled seating area and kitchenette.

Kalani is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your stay here supports our mission to provide transformational experiences via nature, culture, and wellness.

Kalani retreat rates are all-inclusive and provide access to meals, accommodations, and use of Kalani's amenities including our clothing-optional 25-meter pool, hot tubs, and sauna. Kalani cannot pro-rate fees for late arrivals or early departures. Registration for the full retreat experience is required.

Airport Transportation

Kalani offers shuttle service from Hilo International Airport (ITO), which can be arranged via Kalani Guest Services, [email protected] or 808.965.0468. Please send flight details, including airline carrier and flight number with your shuttle request. We also pick up from the downtown Hilo bus station and hotels. Shuttle service is subject to availability; one-way pricing is $50 per person for shared rides and $75 per person for single bookings. If you require airport shuttle service, please contact us to make your reservation a minimum of one week in advance.

Taxi service is available from ITO or Hilo Downtown for a one-way fare of approximately $125.

Policies

Cancellations up to 7 days in advance of arrival incur a $75 administrative fee. Cancellations within 7 days of arrival incur forfeiture of fees paid up to $250. No refund will be provided for no-shows or cancellations within 24 hours of scheduled arrival, 4:00 pm on check-in date. No refund will be provided for early departures from retreat programs. Participation in any parts of programs at Kalani Honua is completely voluntary.

Kalani Honua reserves the right to dismiss a participant at any time before, during or after a program if one:

  • Becomes dangerous or harmful to self, others, or property
  • Behaves disruptively or inappropriately
  • Is not able, for whatever reason, to be present for learning
  • Breaks the law
  • Refuses to cooperate with program leaders or Kalani Honua management
  • Does not pay accordingly for program or services provided

Maxwell is a yoga teacher, massage therapist, DJ, dancer and artist. He was first introduced to yoga and eastern practices by his mother when he was 10yrs. old and has been interested in alternative medicine and the healing arts ever since. He has studied with many different teachers around the world such as: Kathy Elder, Shiva Rea, Lino Miele, Daren Friesen, Les Leventhal, Duncan Wong and Liz Heffernan. He received his yoga teacher-training certificate in 2003 at Kalani Honua Oceanside Retreat Center on the Big Island of Hawaii, as well as his massage therapist license. He also received his aquatic bodywork license in 2009. Maxwell is the founder of Intuitive Yoga, an innovative approach to yoga that moves beyond the poses and into our own intuitive sense of what our body needs most at any given moment. He is currently teaching weekly classes of Intuitive Yoga, Yin Yoga and Intuitive Aquatic Movement at Kalani Honua.

Ayako Miyauchi
Ayako lived in a rural village of Japan for 19 years and came to U.S. following her heart's guidance. She fell in love with dance and studied wide variety of modern dance and contemporary dance as well as improvisation, yoga and Continuum Movement. She has also been trained in various energy healing modality both in U.S. and Japan. Inner Wave Movement Meditation is developed to offer participants an opportunity to bring attention to the healing quality of subtle and intrinsic movement of the body and unwind from daily stress in a most gentle and nourishing way.
