Soulsweat Dance Retreat…

This 6-night retreat features yoga, dance, poetry exercises, and guided meditation with plenty of time to relax and rejuvenate. Start your days with morning yoga and a guided meditation to clear your mind. Spend the afternoons dancing Soulsweat style to invigorate your body and open your heart. Indulge your senses with guided poetry writing, and spark your sense of adventure as we explore the Big Island's hidden treasures of black sand beaches and geothermal pools. If you are ready to feel an emotional release, take a soul-affirming journey in a joy-filled and playful environment, this retreat is for you!

SoulSweat is for adults with all dance backgrounds - you will feel energized and healed by this dance. SoulSweat touches on your emotional, spiritual and physical body by encouraging you to let go, forget about what it looks like, open up and have fun! If you are looking for a high impact workout that has an emotional and spiritual focus - this is not about tightening your abs or counting calories - this is a life affirming dance fitness class for everyone! Lucy Wallace will be guiding!

Just like with dance, poetry writing is a wonderful adventure, allowing us to indulge in both wild leaps and small steps of imagination, to satisfy some yearnings for pattern, mystery, freedom and release. Each day during the SS retreat we will gather after dancing and write spontaneous poetry. The informal sessions will be facilitated by Gayle Nosal, long time SS dancer, poetry enthusiast and writer.

About The Food
Three times a day, guests and staff are summoned by the call of the conch to dine on the open-air lanai (veranda). At this central gathering place, you can experience the daily rhythms of assembly and departure reminiscent of ancient village life. Kalani cuisine encompasses a variety of styles including, Thai, Indian, and Italian. The chefs have extensive training and a common interest in creating healthful and delicious meals. We celebrate the abundance of Hawai'i by serving local tropical fruits and vegetables and fresh-caugh fish. Seafood is often served at dinner (chicken and beef are served occasionally), and vegetarians are well-cared for. Most importantly, the chefs firmly believe that the care and love invested in the cuisine are transmitted to the diner, and everything is prepared with aloha.

Kalani offers accommodations to suit diverse preferences and budgets. Our rustic accommodations are simple, outside-in spaces that offer comfort and tranquility. Angular octagonal or pentagonal structures are a contrast to box-based architecture and invite a departure from routine.

Kalani accommodations are not equipped with heating or air conditioning, as Kalani is situated on the east coast of Hawaii Island, benefiting from the persistent east-to-west Pacific trade wind flow. Windows in our accommodations are screened, maximizing airflow and views, and there are no phones or televisions in rooms.

Hale Lodges - pronounced Ha'-lay, Hawaiian for "house" – are two-level Lodges that house contain rooms on each floor with access to common areas on both levels. The Hale Lodges are located on the central lawn near the dining lanai, and feature garden views. Hale Lodge rooms approximate 200 square feet and can accommodate up to three guests. Some rooms have private baths, and our most economically priced rooms have shared baths.

Lofts approximate 1,000 square feet and comprise two private bedrooms adjacent to a shared common space. Each Loft bedroom can house up to two people and has a full private bath. The Loft common space is spacious and open in feel and features a soaring, high-ceiled seating area and kitchenette.

"Hey Lucy! I’ve been wanting to speak with you to say how grateful I am for you and your vibe that resides in your studio. I can’t believe that I’m dancing in such a place that I don’t think…too much… about who might be watching and/or thinking about me. And it’s b/c of two things…first is I have taken a huge step within to do things that best serve me on my journey in this life and second, the vibe and atmosphere of non-judgement, community and just having some fucking fun while we explore the shit, positive and negative, each of us have inside our bodies, minds, and SOULS!"

“I just wanted to say thank you for your SoulSweat classes. Your class has allowed me to move forward after a string of tragedies–to vent anger and confusion and then find and create some kind of beauty that I can believe in. I appreciate the spirit, rhythm, and energy you put into your classes. Dance heals!”

Her classes are cathartic, high energy and celebratory! You will feel inspired while you forget that you are exercising! In March of 2015, Lucy founded Dance 2B Free with the mission of sharing the healing power of dance with women in prison nationwide. Their program launched at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in July of 2015 and has grown into weekly classes and a teacher-training program. We are expanding into Pueblo, CO, York, Nebraska and Honolulu, Hawaii with our Teacher-Training program.
