Yoga is for Every Body
Come experience the beauty of Hawaii as this special group gathers to practice yoga, tell stories and explore the wisdom of the body in nature and our ability for transformation.
“I feel deeply moved and transformed. There are so many reasons why. Thank you Kimberly; your style is extraordinary to me.” -Previous Retreat Participant
During this five-day retreat, we’ll use yoga, storytelling and nature to explore the stories we carry and create in our bodies. We all carry the stories that were given to us, and we create more. Given that we can empower our own stories, it’s odd how often we take on cultural definitions and identities. By focusing on pleasure, power and practice, we’ll explore our stories and how they relate with others.
“Beautifully simple, yet deeply masterful.” -
Each day includes both active and restorative yoga practices, meditation, writing contemplations, storytelling games and activities (truly: fun, never intimidating).
“Such a wonderfully held space… Perfect balance of group time and time on our own. Perfect balance of meeting us where we were, and pushing us a bit beyond.”
Whether you’re a long-term yoga practitioner or a beginner, this retreat will connect with your highest potential for alignment and restoration. Regardless of one’s strength, abilities, size or body type, we all live with cultural messages about the body. Through level-specific instruction, you’ll practice the benefits of yoga: strength, balance and flexibility – and learn how to take those concepts into a life full of self-love.
“The moment where I learned to use my mind to take away and avoid discomfort was amazing. These sessions helped me appreciate myself and what I can do and think.”
In addition to our yoga sessions, we have also planned adventures to the most inspiring sites in the region. You’ll be nestled in a rain forest surrounded by fiery lava, crashing sea, tropical foliage and people celebrating the joy of being alive. There will be plenty of time for relaxation or to engage with Kalani’s Hawaiian culture programs, classes and events. Connect with others during family style meals on the open air dining lanai, enjoying the healthy, local, mostly organic food for which Kalani is famous. Yoga mats, props and blankets are all provided.
“So helpful to understand different ways of using the props and to have instruction on modifications for bigger bodies. I appreciated the rigorous yet achievable nature of each class and how it progressed over the week.”
Body diversity and individuals with disabilities are quite welcome - and Kalani Honua, as a nature/cultural retreat, is not fully wheelchair accessible. Please contact us with concerns; we will assist in finding off-site accommodations and attempting to meet physical needs during the retreat, as appropriate.
“Going over edges. Jumping over, diving over, tiptoeing over edges. I loved how you reflected our own courage and ability. The way you gave us challenges and believed we could simply do it.”
