`Ohana Yoga Retreat 2014

Gena Kenny & Kent Cuthbert

August 21, 2014 - August 28, 2014

The Ultimate Yoga Retreat

Come and experience yoga, adventure, and the spirit of Polynesia all in the most spectacular venue on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The Ohana Yoga retreat is much more than simply Yoga, thanks to the energy of this very special island, you will be taken deeper into Hawaiian culture and deeper into your own self then possibly ever before.

The Big Island; also known as “the doorway to the other side”.  When you first arrive into this paradise, you can begin to allow certain notions to stir your subconscious mind. Allow yourself to move further into the opportunities that the energy of the big island provides.  First we offer our respect to this island, to the legends and myths ( particularly Madame Pele), the people and the land.   Pele’s lava is a powerful symbol and the foundation for new beginnings.. Here at the source of creation, where dense solid elements are liquefied, the doorway between dimensions can exist. Part of the feeling you find when you arrive is the ‘loosening of the glue of your reality’.

A place with such incredible energy tends to stir deep emotion from within each of us, it awakens sensory capabilities and intuition. This setting is the perfect breeding ground for myth and for legend.  The stories of the island  come from many sources, including Hawaiian lineage, legends and belief systems.  The living beauty of the Hawaiian islands physically represents the living beauty within us that we can all map out and get in touch with – a beauty of spirit that clearly runs through the universe and is within every one of us.  The islands are a personal ‘sojourn’ for all individuals who wish to grow and learn.

Ancient Hawaiian quote

“That which is most precious to our hearts, closest to the truth… that which delights, excites and brings joy .. holds a thread to a greater reality.”

This 7 day retreat will include 2 sessions daily of yoga and meditation as well as adventures and cultural activities. During your time at Kalani, you will learn to paddle an outrigger canoe, take a boat trip to see lava flowing into the ocean and land forming before your eyes, learn the ancient hula dance which is a form of storytelling in Hawaiian culture. You will experience the mystery of ancient caves plus, there are more surprises once you arrive!

But, don’t worry! There is also time to enjoy the quiet of Kalani’s gardens, to immerse yourself in the warmth of the jacuzzi, sauna, and thermal pools, to explore watsu treatments or massage and to be inspired by the dance, music, painting and sculpture of local artists.

About the Facilitator(s)

Gena Kenny

Gena Kenny

Gena has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. Her studies began with Jilda Liddicut of the Gaia School of Yoga. She has continued expanding her yoga studies under the guidance of internationally renowned teacher Donna Farhi. Her teaching focuses on nurturing from the inside – out. This approach allows students of all levels of experience and from all traditions to build their own authentic Yoga practice.

“My connection to Hawaii and the spirit of Polynesia comes from a twenty year history of paddling outrigger canoes. Through my many travels to Hawaii, I have had the opportunity to discover the magic of the Polynesian Islands and peoples. In essence the spirit of the islands is "Aloha", which means to be kind, nurturing and loving to yourself, to others and to the planet.”

The creation of "`Ohana Yoga" comes from blending this 'magic' and 'spirit' into her own unique style of teaching. Gena has also authored a book and dvd "The Gift of Yoga".
