This workshop provides you with the theory and hands-on practice necessary to gain a basic understanding of Deep Tissue massage. Attain the awareness necessary to address chronic pain, hypertonicity, muscular/fascial adhesions and limited range of motion. This course focuses on common problem areas including the musculature of the spine, low back, legs, deep lateral rotators, gluteals, shoulders and neck. The course includes the following topics: :

  •     Theory & assessment​
  •     Palpation​
  •     Indications & contraindications
  •     Practical application

Class sessions will be held April 1, 3, 8 & ​10 from ​9am -12pm and 1pm - 4pm. ​

Required text:  Course manual will be disseminated for free on ​the first day of class.

Prerequisite: Students must have a proficient working knowledge of human anatomy and​ physiology and basic Swedish massage techniques. This can be attained through either completion of the​ Anatomy and Massage Fundamentals workshops, a demonstrated practical working knowledge, or a combination of the two.

About the Facilitator(s)

Amy Doff attended the Hawaiian Islands School of Body Therapies, in Kealakekua, from 2000 to 2001. She completed almost 1,000 hours of soft-tissue rehabilitation/medical massage​ coursework and developed a passion for addressing acute and chronic injuries. She has been practicing massage for the past 15 years. Amy is passionate about utilizing the opportunities we have as Massage Therapists to share self- awareness and health education with our clients.

Amy has ​completed advanced degrees in: Public Health, focusing on Health Policy and Management (MPH, UH Manoa, 2010), Anthropology (BA, UH Hilo, 2006), and Occupational Safety & Health (Minor, UH Hilo,2006) as well as a Permaculture design certificate (Hawaiian Sanctuary, 2014).

Tuition-only price: $295
Course tuition includes lunch during class days and access to Kalani's Dining Lanai amenities.

50% of tuition balance is due upon registration. The remaining 50% balance payment is due on or before the day the course begins. Full payment is required in order for students to participate in the first day of the course.

Students who request cancellation 30 days or more prior to the course start date will receive a full refund less a $50 administrative fee. Cancellations requested within 30 days prior to the course start date will result in a 50% refund of monies paid.
