Lomilomi massage is an integral part of the Hawaiian healing tradition. It incorporates rhythmic movement, intuitive touch, body placement, conscious breathing, prayer, and changing thoughts of limiting beliefs. The goal of a lomilomi massage session is to instill forgiveness and release, thereby creating a sense of wholeness and alignment of the self. It promotes a cleansing of the self on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.

In this 3-day, 24-hour Lomilomi massage technique workshop, you will learn and practice the skills/techniques needed to perform a full body Lomilomi massage session. You will learn body mechanics and exercises, pule (prayer), Hawaiian terminology, strokes and techniques performed both prone and supine, and the application of hot stones.

Class sessions will be held Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 8 am - 5 pm

Required text: Course manual will be available for purchase on first day of class for $10.

About the Facilitator(s)

Angela Leslee

Angela Leslee, LMT has been a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii since 1996 following graduation from the Hawaiian Islands School of Massage (HIS). After five years in private practice, she was invited to become an instructor at HIS, which offers a 1,250 hour program in medical massage. During her 5 year tenure she also developed and co-founded 3 different massage school projects for Japanese students both in Hawaii and Japan.

Angela has been teaching Lomilomi the past 15 years. Her kumu (teacher) Maka'ala Yates is an indigenous Hawaiian elder, who began learning about Lomilomi in his childhood. He studied with the renowned master Aunty Margaret for many years, and now devotes his life to passing on this knowledge to others around the world.

True Lomilomi as it was practiced by the ancient Hawaiian kahunas and by a few today, is a multi-faceted approach to healing. It is an art and a science that takes a lifetime to master. It is also a traditional form of health care in Hawaii.

Angela has built a reputation among her students for teaching in a clear and concise way. She can break down even the most complex information into simple, easy-to-understand pieces. She believes it is important to empower students so that they can access what is already inside of them, and that teaching and learning should be fun. Laughter allows time for integration. The relaxed atmosphere in Angela's classes allows for optimal assimilation of material.

Angela's knowledge, experience and passion for teaching and massage are guaranteed to make this a positive, educational and joyful experience for you.
