Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training Program 200 hr; Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School

Liz Heffernan and Molly Masaoka

This 200 hour Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training program offers students  students a soulful journey into the many dimensions of yoga as a vehicle for growth and transformation. Our curriculum includes a unique blend of alignment based vinyasa flow, a solid foundation in Hatha Yoga and 200 hours of instruction offered within a therapeutic framework.

The instruction will cover a wide range of yoga techniques including yoga postures, anatomy, relaxation, breath awareness, pranayama, meditations to calm the mind, contemplations to transform limiting tendencies into life affirming thought patterns, and the application of clear principles of alignment to create safety, balance and freedom in yoga poses. Students explore concepts from Ayurveda, the Upanishads, Patanjali and the Chakra System as frameworks for the application of yoga as a journey towards radiant health and wellbeing. The asana emphasis includes both level one/two alignment based vinyasa flow sequencing as well as gentler and restorative variations.

Rather than offer standard sequencing or rigid methodologies, students will be introduced to frameworks, concepts and methodologies that inspire each trainee to adapt the practices, awaken their creativity and find their own authentic voice as a teacher. Graduates of this program will feel empowered to practice and teach a variety of yoga class types, including: all levels vinyasa yoga, alignment-based classes, yoga foundations, senior, gentle, and restorative yoga.  This program is offered in partnership with Soma Yoga Institute & Yoga Centered.

“The curriculum was extraordinary, rich and diverse and every aspect was integrated. The therapeutic focus was what drew me to the program and it was even more comprehensive than I had anticipated. The artful design of each day’s schedule
balanced effort and recuperation in terms of physical practice, exertion and mental/analytical/theoretical work.  The Ayurveda was fascinating; the way we studied the Yoga Sutras made them accessible and enabled us to know each student on a deeper level. The group exercises helped build confidence toward our final teaching practicum, which was beautifully orchestrated. My philosophical understanding and appreciation of yoga has increased ten fold so now I approach yoga as a lifestyle. I feel empowered and much stronger physically than when I started this training. I feel emotionally refreshed and ready to deal with the challenges awaiting me at home.”
