ECSTATIC DANCE

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Rise and shine with us every Sunday morning at the mothership of the dance that changed the world! Ecstatic Dance at Kalani created the template for this worldwide phenomenon of weekly community dances held as ritual dance experience. A beloved modern tradition that transformed our local community and the lives of thousands of dancers from around the globe.

Each Sunday opens with an invigorating yoga warm up led by Megan Yogini. Next we flow into the opening circle, and then a two and a half hour classic Ecstatic Dance, and then closing circle.

Our Sunday dances have long been the heartbeat of the Big Island dance scene; a rhythmic pulse of expression and connection. An outlet for the body, mind and spirit, the container is held to safely move through all levels of emotional release. Let’s dance our prayers together!

GIRA WORKSHOPS

TWO DATES:

SATURDAY, APRIL 18th, 2026 FROM 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
&
WEDNESDAY, MAY 6th, 2026 FROM 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Join us from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Blue Room for an evening of exploring the rich musical heritage and spiritual wisdom of the Romani culture in Brazil. Through ritual, song and dance we celebrate the coming together of the Afro-Brazilian spiritual tradition of Umbanda, with the Romani peoples- who’s history in Brazil dates back as far as the 16th century. Known as ciganos, or “Gypsies”- they historically endured persecution and social exclusion. In Umbanda, they are no longer seen as outcasts, but as radiant symbols of joy, magic, and wisdom. Through the Linha dos Ciganos (Gypsy Line), We reclaim and honor the Romani archetype as a source of freedom, enchantment, and spiritual insight. They are celebrated as Filhos do Vento (Children of the Wind)- nomadic spirits who embody the element of air through movement, mystery, and joyful detachment from material constraints. The ritual, known as a Gira is led by Kamil, who’s study with Afro-Brazilian spiritual traditions began 30 years ago. Attendees are invited to wear comfortable and colorful clothing, and please bring a cushion or floor chair to sit on. Suggested donation is $5-$30.

  • HOLISTIC MOVEMENT

Holistic Movement is a multidimensional embodiment practice developed by Olha Amanita after a lifetime of exploration in dance, energy, and sacred geometry. Drawing from ancient Egyptian movement technologies, this method helps rewire the nervous system, shift internal patterns, and awaken new pathways for expression, awareness, and vitality. Each session invites participants to break free from habitual patterns—physically, mentally, and energetically—while reconnecting with the deeper intelligence of the body. By merging movement with breath, ritual, and presence, Holistic Movement becomes a portal for healing, creativity, and personal transformation.

  • LAUHALA WEAVING

As with all his artistic endeavors, including painting, building surfboards and woodworking, Roy Ruiz has been weaving lauhala as a means to connect to Puna and its indigenous culture. Under the tutelage of Kumu Lynda Saffery, he has been practicing this Polynesian craft for almost 20 years and was encouraged to take on the role of being an alaka’i (guide) to future weavers. In this class, students will learn Hawaiian protocol (chanting), gathering and preparation of materials, weaving terminology in ʻŌlelo Hawai’i and a beginner’s project of an apo lima (bracelet or arm band).
