Now we all know about “renew, reuse, and recycle”, but what if we took it a step further? A common goal of permaculture is to utilize nature’s abundance wherever possible. Using these biological and environmental resources means that they are inherently regenerative, discouraging us from producing waste as much as possible.
A prime example of this would be growing your own crop, eating said crop, throwing food scraps and green “waste” in the compost to be used for soil or mulch, and using that soil or mulch to grow… you guessed it! More crops! In that process, virtually no waste was created. This cycle can be applied to most everything that has to do with using and valuing your renewable resources. Other renewable resources include : solar power, water catchment, compost toilets, wildlife contribution, and so much more.
While this may seem tedious, it contributes to the health and wellness of our planet as a whole. It’s no secret that air and trash pollution are becoming a serious threat to our environment. Now more than ever, it is important that we take action to change in our daily lives and encourage others to do the same.
