About the Facilitator(s)

Gail O'Brien, In-Depth Instructor

Gail O’Brien has taught and performed in a global capacity for the last 8 years. Winning Instructor of the year awards from Hooping.org and Flow arts Institute in 2015 and performing at many international festivals, corporate events and cabarets including EJC gala show in 2014.

Gail has trained at Greentop Circus School, Belfast Circus School and with top level professional teachers around the world. She is a dynamic contemporary hoop performer. She uses her background in physiotherapy to break down movement patterns giving her a unique edge in teaching workshops and classes.

Valencia of Twisted Orbit, In-Depth Teacher

This versatile, vivacious, vaudevillian vixen, Valentina dazzles audiences around the world with her unique vision of circus dance fusion. Sharing her magic in both performance and workshops is her passion and drive. Valentina is a second generation belly dancer who was raised in the Los Angeles underground art scene by her mother, Leela, a successful theatrical belly dance icon. Valentina now blends belly dance with hooping, fire, burlesque and hoop juggling. Her ability to seamlessly combine these art forms gives her a provocative style unlike any other. She is the leader of The Hoop Unit, the Vaudeville Vixens, one half of Twisted Orbit, a hoop fabricator and an event producer.

Bags of Twisted Orbit, In-Depth Teacher

Bags is a professional teacher and performer from the UK who has been formally trained at Circomedia – Europe’s leading centre for contemporary circus and physical theatre. He has taught hooping at prominent events all over the UK, Europe and the US as well as being a teacher on Hoop City and Hooping University. He founded the Bristol Hoop Massive and the UK hoop website the Hoop Hub and has won or been nominated for multiple Hoopies and Revolvies (this year he jointly won the Male Hooper of the Year Hoopie!) He is an innovative and multi-disciplined performer who has a strong passion for circus in all it’s forms – but just at the moment you’re unlikely to find him anywhere other than inside a hoop!

Shakti Sunfire, In-Depth Producer

An internationally recognized movement guide and an advocate of the Earth, Shakti Sunfire blends her deep love of conscious dance, classical Tantra, yoga, mythology, ecology, and the study of many nature-based traditions into inspiring thematic explorations of Soul.

Hoopstress for the last 8 years running, Shakti's focus falls on the merging world of somatic movement, free flow dance, and tech in the hoop. She is inspired in the creation of creative community space and inside the family VIBE of the hoop community. In-Depth is her baby, and the best party she'll ever throw. At In-Depth Shakti acts as visionary glue, space-holder, dance and yoga teacher and mama. She loves every moment and all the friends made along the way!

You might have seen her dancing on the Wanderlust Festival main stage, or on the cover of Yoga Journal. A true rolling stone, Shakti teaches workshops, leads retreats, and performs all over the world. The visionary woman in her has founded The Rhythm Way, and gotten her published and featured in countless books, articles, images and DVDs. A passionate writer, Shakti dives deep into human experience, exposing universal connection and poignant synchronicity through mytho-poetic narrative. You can find more of her work on Rebelle Society, Elephant Journal and in Origin Magazine.

Luna Breeze, In-Depth Producer

Exotic, energetic, and entertaining, Luna  extends far beyond the acrobatic. As a hoop dancer, her choreography blurs the line between entertainment and performance art - a focus on the magic of illusion and the interaction of hoop and dancer. She is known for her fusion of modern dance, tradition circus skills, and musicality within her dance. As a teacher she is known for her accessibility, goofy sense of humor and serious attitude of positive empowerment through the ring.

Luna has traveled to India via Samsung Mobile to promote the Olympic games through performance, performed at the 2014 IJA Cascade of Stars, and has worked with acclaimed contemporary circus companies such as Pendulum Aerial Arts, Quixotic Fusion, Madison House, Periplo Circus Convention, and many others. In 2011 she was visionary and co-founder of MoonDrop Circus, a thriving community circus based in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2013 she completed a professional circus training program with one of the most highly acclaimed contemporary circus companies in America, Pendulum Aerial Arts. There she worked one on one with world champion rhythmic gymnast Rebbecca Sukhanova. Luna now a teaches and performs for Pendulum Aerial Arts on a regular basis.

About the Facilitator(s)

Urban Roots Workshop
with Amy Secada

A transformational dance workshop that focuses on implementing influences from Capoeira and African dance into a primal free form flow.

Learn to ground your personal freestyle and explore floor work with ease and grace.

Accompanied by live musical inspiration, the Urban Roots technique goes beyond movement to guide you deeper into thoughtless improvisation, energetic awareness, breath control.

Tribal Nouveau: Temple Tribal: Sacred Expressions thru Bellydance w. NagaSita

NagaSita’s unique concoction of Tribal Nouveau with Indian Classical,Tibetan, Balinese, Hawaiian, and Japanese fusion.

In this workshop, NagaSita spends the first half with a yoga warm-up, then she breaks down all of the techniques involved to master this exciting new form of fusion.

For the second half of the workshop, she focuses entirely on Temple Tribal choreography which merges all of the techniques broken down in the first half, so that dancers can get a good idea of what this dance style feels like in motion.

Karin Moriarty -
1. Surrendering to The Unknown: Contact Improv
A deep exploration of the basic elements and skills that sustain contact improvisation will be the emphasis of this class. Special focus will be placed on balance, use of energy, force, and directionality. For example, how we can become more efficient with our movements and choices as we move and enter into a dance with others? Students will be guided through a series of exercises that lay the foundation of understanding the interplay between physicality and emotional sensations, in order to create movement, while in concert with a partner.

2. Project Dance:  "Movement Exploration and Emotion”
The class combines elements from Action Theater, modern dance, ritual performance, and Karin’s own unique approach to creating poignant movement for dance pieces. We will travel on an inward journey that may be difficult or uncomfortable at times. But eventually we will arrive at a soothing and safe destination into the past. Bringing our memories alive into the moment, we will replay the emotions and physical sensations we felt at a particular point in our lives. We will tap into these emotions embodied in our memory bank, and reproduce the sensations that we once felt, which may compel us to move now in a particular way! Abandoning the literal meaning of what the circumstances were all about, we will deconstruct the moment, and convert what we find into instruments of movement for our dance.

Michál Anna Carrillo - Traditional Dance from Guinea, West Africa w/ live drums.

In this class you will go through a series of stretches  and warm up movements to ready your body for the energetic and powerful dance of Guinea, West Africa.

You will be exposed to two rhythms with focus on one rhythm, breaking down movements and moving them across the floor.

This class will challenge your right- left brain coordination and be a joyful experience of drums, self expression and cultural immersion

Ann Averbach - Gypsy Yoga Flow

Gypsy Yoga Flow: A Tribute to the Psoas.
Targeting the psoas, we will lenghten, strenghten, and focus on eccentric contractions to create freedom in this pivotal part of our bodies.  Using breath, carefully sequenced asana, and positive visualization, we invite spaciousness and set ourselves up energetically for a joyful and easeful dance camp journey.

Gypsy Yoga Flow: Yoga Ceremony to honor the waters - Liquid asana.
A tribute to the healing power of the waters: together we flow with rhythmic, fluid, sequencing, and honor the water element within ourselves, and pray for the healing of the waters around the planet.

Gypsy Yoga Flow: Mellow Flow and Thai Twists (Partner Thai Massage) w. Ann and Sebastian
Unwind, restore, breathe, and twist in this gentle flow class fused with some partner Thai massage work.

Gypsy Yoga Flow: Delicious Unwind and Partner Thai Glut Release (Partner Thai massage) w. Ann and Sebastian.
You've danced your ass off, now lets get juicy and massage it out! This class is like the dessert at the end of your 20 course Dance Camp Feast.  It will be scrumptious - a slow, sweet flow leading up to partner work.

Frey Faust - Axis Syllabus

In this Axis Syllabus informed session, we will develop oddly poetic and physically and mentally challenging movement studies that will offer an array of subtle gestural qualities as well as athletic demand, while we review or discover the grammar, syntax and etymology, or environmental context, composition, abilities and limitations of our bodies.

The Axis Syllabus is a growing collection of bio-mechanical information that serves a global community as a resource for understanding, preparing and training the human body for moving.

Frey will be offering the following topics:
1. Fascia Nation / Democratic Motion
2. Down to the Bone Carriage - alignment /  NVM - non-violent movement
3. Kinetic Highways - energy sources - sustainable movement

Cocrea Partner Dance - Nomad Dance with Wren & Antje

Partner dance is a metaphor for life. As we push and pull on one another, we elicit different responses, just as in our off-the-floor interactions.

In this workshop we will fine tune our connection and frame viewed through the lens of non-violent communication.

Become more attentive listeners and responders to the purpose of sensing and obtaining consent, learn how to be more sensitive to changes in our partner’s state and watch your dance unfold in new, amazing ways.
